Never in my life have I anticipated a movie so much, but you can't blame me especially with all that hype going on. Paranormal Activity was on twitter's trending list several times in a row, had a very engaging trailer, and tons of word of mouth advertising going on. Every mother son was talking about it, and I was completely sold. I HAD to watch it.
Till now, the absolute best horror movie I've ever seen is still the original spanish flick REC. REC was remade into a crappy hollywood movie titled Quarantine which I'm sure you've heard of. What I like about REC and Blair Witch is that realistic handheld camera effect which immediately draws you into the atmosphere and scene which the characters are in. This intimacy creates a heightened level of fear, and it's a big part of the reason why I wanted to watch Paranormal Activity.

And the verdict? I think I'll give it a 2/5. It could have been a score of 2.5 if not for Kai Bu constantly laughing beside me which spoiled the movie BIG FUCKING TIME. Yea I know that's a stupid reason to give a 2, but I still think the movie would have sucked regardless.
First of all what made REC and Blair Witch so terrifying was that through all the dramatic scenes, their acting was god damn awesome. With that, it made the whole handheld camera scene even more gripping and realistic. This movie however was rather bland in the acting department, and even more bland in it's plot development.
Although I hate that Kai Bu totally spoiled the scary mood, I can't deny that I was laughing inside as well. Every night the couple would film the room to record evidence of the hauntings, and imagine having to see the scene like 20 times throughout the movie.
Night 1 - Level 1 lights turn on
Night 2 - Level 1 lights turn on but off itself this time
Night 3 - Level 2 lights on
Night 4 - Doors move
Night 5 - Megan Fox is playing Monster Hunter
And then you suddenly wake up from your dreams. The scenes are so boring you could just fall asleep effortlessly. I think the whole theatre hated us coz we laugh at every god damn thing. Halfway through the movie we were like, "oh so the ghost more powerful liao can walk up to Level 2 and on the light". By the way there was not a single scream in the theatre throughout the movie, I dunno wad the fuck the hype was all about. What movie were the people in the trailer watching seriously, did they really freak out at the slam of a fucking door?
I was stupid to believe all that hype created by their genius marketing strategy. And worst of all, I studied advertising. Honestly I can imagine myself freakin out if I'm watching alone in the room at night, but in the theatre hell no.
